Through CSR programs, philanthropy, and volunteer efforts, businesses aim to benefit society. A complementary effect of which is workers are more likely to stay with a company they believe in. In turn this reduces employee turnover, improves workplace morale, and avoids the cost of hiring new employees.
The iTutor Mathematics and English program is computerized and assists students throughout their school careers. With support from Tutors just a call away, students are shepherded from Grade R through to Matric. Mathematics, notoriously complex without expert teaching, (which unfortunately is in short supply in South Africa) can now be studied at pupils’ own pace, knowing they always have back-up.
For companies looking to outperform the market, when enacting CSR strategies they may improve how investors view the company’s value. The Boston Consulting Group found that companies considered leaders in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters had an 11% valuation premium over their competitors.
To date iTutor has partnered, with among others, Anglo American Sishen Iron Ore Company (Pty) Ltd, and Exxaro Resources Ltd. On behalf of these corporates iTutor has created employment in a number of communities, and supplied training to over 500 pupils whose results have been nothing short of remarkable.
EXXARO
In 2022, we partnered again with Exxaro mining company and supplied 449 laptops equipped with our math’s and English software. This deal came with a tutorial support of 2 years with 10 tutors supporting the 449 learners. The project is on-going and Exxaro intends to further extend our partnership to support communities by strengthening math’s skills in schools around its operating units in different provinces.
ANGLO AMERICAN
In September 2021, we partnered with Anglo America (Kolomela Mine) and supplied 250 laptops with Math’s and English software, empowering 250 learners at Postmasburg and Danielskuil Areas.
As part of their community outreach project, the project was running from 2021 to 2023 for grade 10 ,11 and 12.
