How does the Maths Program Work?
The program uses free format algorithms so that all approaches to answering a question are accepted provided they are correct.
Each line of an answer is monitored and, provided it is mathematically correct, is accepted. However, should a line be mathematically incorrect the child is given a red light and is not allowed to continue until the error is corrected. Should a child produce a line in a solution that is not incorrect but is leading nowhere the child is given a yellow warning light. Voice feedback is used to explain topics clearly as is diagrams.
Many questions contain examples of how to do the question. Many contain hints that assist the child to start the question. In many cases model solutions are given to assist students to compare their solution to a model solution. Students can print the questions or the question and their answer or the question and a model answer for future reference.
Using free format algorithms allows questions to be randomly generated so that if a student redoes a topic to further improve their understanding or to revise work at the beginning of a new year or to prepare for an assessment, they will get new questions each time.
